8.30- 10.00: Tour around the school, see our poster exhibition on our project work. Teachers to headmaster’s office, students hang out with each other ;-)

Lecture on mythology and see a film on the northern lights (aurora borealis).
11.00-11.30: return to school (by bus 20, 11.06 or 11.16)
11.30: Departure from school for dog sledding (in cars).

11.10-11.40: Assembly in the school gym. The whole school celebrates the Sami National Day. The Sami anthem will be sung.

12.20-13.50: Workshop on the Comenius project: our guests present their projects/make posters to be included in the exhibition in the hall
14.00-15.00: Sami market, Stortorget (Main Square)
15.00-18.00: Town Hall: official opening of the Sami week.
Final shopping, packing etc.
18-20.30: Farewell party with parents and students. Buffet: Finger food/snacks. Singing etc. Entertainment –by our guests;-). Staff room.

Norwegian language survival kit
In the Norwegian alphabet we have 3 extra vowels, æ,ø,å, but don’t despair, we are sure you have the same sounds in your language.
Æ= ae, as in English bad
Ø= oe, as in English but, nut
Å=aa, as in English corn, London.
Norway is a long country with mountains and fjords dividing places. Therefore we have many dialects, and the one in the north is very different from the standard written Norwegian, both in vocabulary and intonation. Pay attention to these words in particular:

1.person singular pronoun: I-jeg-æ (English- standard-dialect)
2.person singular pronoun, object form(akkusativ): you-deg-dæ
3.person plural pronoun: you-dere-dåkker
Negation: not-ikke-ikkje
In the present tense of verbs we leave out the ending(-r).

Sunday 28th – ARRIVAL OF GUESTS
- The German group will arrive at 19.15, the Norwegian and Greece groups at 20.10, and the Italian group at 20.50.
- Transport to accommodation places: students to Adamuz, Villa de Río and El Carpio, teachers to hotel in Cordoba.
- Stroll around the surroundings of the train station to clear your minds up and then our first dinner together.
Monday 29th – A DAY IN MONTORO
8:30- Official Begin of the Programme. Arrival of students in Montoro. Workshop with Power Point Presentation by the Spanish students at the school library.
9:30-Arrival of teachers in Montoro. Welcome by our headmaster. Breakfast with other teachers and tour through building. Presentation of the Comenius activities by some students.
11:00-Reception at the Town Hall and sightseeing around the town with a tourist guide donated by the Council of Montoro.
14:30-Students go home by bus. Lunch donated by the Council of Montoro with Montoro’s authorities and some workmates from the school.
16:30- Teachers back to Córdoba. Time to relax.
17:00-Football match in Adamuz (only students). Then, a free drink at a local pub.
9:00- Beginning of the tour around Cordobesian taverns.
Tuesday 30th – A DAY IN ADAMUZ
8:30- Arrival of students from Villa del Rio and El Carpio in Montoro. Comenius students join classes.
9:30- Arrival of teachers in Montoro. Departure to Adamuz.
10:00- Reception at the Town Hall and Visit to Almazara (Olive oil mill).
12:00- Visit to Montes Comunales (Natural site). Open-air activities in groups before lunch (fishing, hiking…)

14:30- Lunch donated by the Council of Adamuz.
18:00- Students to families and teachers to Córdoba.
21:00- Light Dinner close to the hotel.
Wednesday 1st – FIRST DAY IN CORDOBA

8:30-Students leave Montoro.
9:30-Teachers meet students in Córdoba.
10:30- Reception at the Town Hall. Official Act supporting Cordoba’s Cultural Capitality for 2016. Signing of an official document by Italian, German, Norwegian and Greek coordinators.
12:00-Guided visit to Alcázar’s Gardens (typical Moorish gardens which belong to an old castle converted into a museum) donated by the Council of Córdoba.
13:00-Visit to Julio Romero de Torres’ Museum (famous Cordobesian painter) donated by the Council of Córdoba.
14:00-Free Lunch at a restaurant in the old part of the city.
17:00-Visit to the ruins of the Caliph city Medina Azahara. Guided by the Spanish students.
18:00-Students to families and teachers to Córdoba.
21:00- Visit to a traditional tavern and tasting of fino wine (Andalusian sweet wine). Dinner afterwards.
Thursday 2nd – SECOND DAY IN CORDOBA
8:30-Students leave Montoro.
9:30-Teachers meet students in Córdoba.
10:30-Visit to Antonio Gala’s Foundation (A Foundation created by Antonio Gala, a well-known Cordobesian writer, in order to support young artists).
12:00- Visit to the Mosque (Cultural World Heritage). Guided visit for those interested.
13:00-Reception at the University of Córdoba, Faculty of Philosophy and Letters of Cordoba. Presentation of the Faculty Programmes by the Vice Dean.
13.30- Free drink for teachers donated by the Faculty
14.00- Free Lunch for all at the Faculty’s canteen.
15:30- Free Evening: Shopping, museums (different options will be given).

Optional tea at an Arab tea shop for teachers.

19:00-Students go home.
21:00- End of the tour around traditional taverns.
Friday 3rd – THEATRE PLAY IN MONTORO-PICNIC IN ADAMUZ-DEPARTURE OF THE ITALIAN GUESTS
8:30- Students arrive in Montoro

9:30-Workshop for the foreigner students.
10:30-Teachers arrive in Montoro.
11:00-Theatre play at Montoro’s theatre. Sketches and presentations about the legends of Montoro and its surroundings. End of the Official Programme.
14:30- Picnic Day at Carmen’s (the student!). Her family will prepare a meal for us. Farewell party.
17:30-Departure of the Italian group.
19:00-Farewell to the Italian group at Cordoba’s train station.
21:00- Last dinner in Córdoba. Drink out.
Saturday 4th – DEPARTURE OF THE REST OF THE TEAMS.
Departure of the Greek, Norwegian and German groups between 9 and 10 a.m. All the families should be at the station by 9:00 to say good-bye to their hosts.

This is the intended program for the week. Every other detail will be given during the week. I’m sorry to tell you that the weather’s a bit rainy and according to the predictions it will keep drizzling until Monday. However, you’ll enjoy nice temperatures between 25º and 16º. Please bring comfortable clothes and shoes because you’ll walk a lot!
We wish a pleasant flight and journey by train. We’re looking forward to your arrival!

Our trip started on 2nd May when we flew from Naples to Munich. After visiting the city of the Oktoberfest, one evening we met the Norwegian group by chance and, on Sunday we took the train for Neumarkt.Here we are at Lauterhofen. What a lovely welcome!

This is the program as planned and intended. Some topics have to be cleared up finally but there won’t be any bigger changes. Guests and host students are taking part in each event.
The guests will be picked up every evening at school by their hosts and taken to school in the morning by school-bus or hosts.
Every other detail will be given during the week.

EASTER TRADITIONS IN CAMPANIA

RITES OF THE HOLY WEEK UNDER THE VESUVIUS

Easter, in our region, is a rich and interesting occasion to see the characteristic processions during the Holy week. This tradition goes back to medieval times. Sorrento, Procida, Somma Vesuviana and Acerra are the places where the processions keep their most intense pathos and at the same time represent also important cultural events. The long parades are followed by a huge crowd deeply involved in the symbolic pathos of the scenes representing Christ’s death.
Festival, tradition, deep attachment to roots: Campania still preserves its special attitude of people to dramatize feelings linked to penance and death. The processions, the songs and prayers show people’s deep religious faith. During the Holy week, the long processions represent human wander in the world and the desire to elevate oneself and expiate sin. In the centuries many traditions have disappeared because the way to be Christian and to live religion has changed. Sorrento and all the mentioned villages have been able to preserve the true involvement to the Holy Week liturgy. The processions have become a moment of aggregation and meditation as well as an important attraction for tourists.
In Procida two thousand people, all dressed with a white habit and violet cape, take part to the procession on Good Friday. The deep pathos and feelings incite young people to work late in the night, to build the symbols of passion, in the entrance halls and front yards of the oldest building on the island..
Four centuries of history boasts the Via Crucis in Somma Vesuviana, organized on the evening of Good Friday, with a very long parade of about two thousand people, following the Madonna of Dead Christ. In the little town at the foot of the mount Somma next to Vesuvius, the tradition dates back to 1630, once again Spanish introduced it.In Acerra the procession on Good Friday is really spectacular with its three thousand torches, lit all around the baron castle, and taken there by black clothed women.On the notes of the Hymn to Maria Santissima Addolorata, sung by three hundred young female voices, the procession goes around the town. The parade starts in the early afternoon from the main square “Piazza Castello”. People wear typical costumes representing eight scenes of Passion. At the head of the procession, the representation of Christ’s arrival in Jerusalem, the Last Supper, the betrayal, the sentence to death and the crucifixion.

Another typical popular Easter tradition is the pilgrimage of "Battenti", followers of Virgin Mary of the Sanctuary of Madonna dell'Arco, not far from Somma Vesuviana.They are dressed in white with a red ribbon and walk,from long distances, without shoes on the Monday after Easter Day.

Whoever is lucky to visit our Region at Easter will have the chance to taste two typical Easter cakes: the "casatiello" and the "pastiera".Here reality very often mingles with legend and this is one of the characteristics which makes our area so rich in magic. Also the history of the pastiera is tied to a legend: the myth of the mermaid Partenope.

But what is a “PASTIERA”?

It is a cake always eaten at Easter-time in Naples and in all cities and towns of Campania. It is made from a very special and old recipe which has two particular ingredients which make it unique: a moisture taken from the orange tree blossom and cooked wheat. Also used in the recipe there is "ricotta" cheese, candid fruit and classic short pastry. Making the tart does non require any great ability, but does require just a little time and patience, but it is well worth it.

PASTIERA'S RECIPE

Ingredients for the Pastiera for 12 people:

1 kg pre packed frozen short pastry
700 gr ricotta cheese
600 gr sugar
400 gr of boiled wheat (you can easily find cans in any supermarket)
80 gr crystallized citron
80 gr crystallized orange
a dash cinnamon
100 gr milk
30 gr butter or lard
5 eggs and 2 egg yolks
a spoon full of vanilla
a spoon of orange flavoured water
1 lemon

Preparation:
1. Soak the wheat berries in plenty of cold water for at least 3 days, or until they soft and not rubbery, changing the water daily (if you want to save time, use the one sold in cans). Drain well. Put the wheat, lard and milk in the top of a double boiler and cook, covered, over boiling water for about 2 1/2 hours. Be sure to add boiling water to the pan every 20 to 30 minutes. (The wheat should be soft and in separate grains, like rice. If the wheat seems dry, add about one cup more of hot milk and stir well. Timing will vary depending on the age of the wheat berries.) Add the sugar and continue cooking another 30 minutes. Set aside to cool. The milk will continue to be absorbed as wheat cools.
2. To make the pastry dough, combine the flour, sugar, salt and lemon rind in a bowl. Add the butter, cut into little pieces, and mix quickly, using your hands or a pastry blender. Mix in the ice water just until the dough holds together. Knead briefly to combine thoroughly, wrap in plastic wrap or foil and set aside to rest in a cool place for about 30 minutes (But you can use pre packed frozen short pastry).
3. In a large bowl, combine the ricotta with the lemon zest, orange-flower water, vanilla, candied orange peel and egg yolks. Mix well and fold in the wheat. Set aside.
4. Lightly butter and flour the bottoms and sides of two 9 1/2-inch tart or quiche pans with removable bottoms. Set aside about a third of the pastry, enough to make lattice tops for the two tarts. Roll out the pastry into thin circles and line the bottoms and sides of the tart pans.
5. Preheat the oven to 275 degrees. Beat the egg whites until they are fairly stiff. Stir about a quarter of the egg whites into the ricotta mixture to soften, then fold in the remaining egg whites. Fill the tarts with the mixture. Roll out the reserved dough and cut into lattice strips to fit the tops of the tarts. Paint the tops of the tarts with the beaten egg and sprinkle with granulated sugar. Bake in the oven for 45 minutes, or until the crust is just golden. Cool on a rack and serve at room temperature or just barely warm.

The legend of the "PASTIERA"

The legend narrates that Partenope the mermaid lived in the gulf which stretched from Posillipo to the Vesuvius enchanted by its beauty. Every Spring she would emerge from the water to greet all the happy people who lived there, and brighten their days intonating love call.
One day her voice was so melodious so pleasant that all the people were fascinated : they all ran towards the sea, moved by the sweetness of the song and the words of love the mermaid had dedicated to them. To thank her they decided to give her the most precious gifts they had.
Seven of the most beautiful maidens were picked to bring Partenope the gifts: flour, strenght and richness of the land; wheat boiled with milk, symbol of the two reigns; ricotta cheese, a present of the shephards and sheep; eggs, symbol of a new life; water with orange flower fragrance; spices, which represented people who lived far away in other continents; sugar, which best gave the idea of the sweetness of Partenope’s call profused in the sky, on Earth and in the universe.
The mermaid was happy of these gifts and decided to bring them to the gods and goddess who lived in the sea. They were all carried away by these gifts, and decided to mix them all together with heavenly art. the result was the first Pastiera which exceeded the sweetness of the Mermaid’s call. The legend has it that Queen Mariateresa d’Austria, wife of Ferdinando II of Borbone, had a nickname "the queen who never smiled". One day her husband, who was outgoing and loved eating, convinced her to try a new recipe. As soon as she tried her first piece of pastiera she counldn’t resist smiling, and at this piont her husband shouted: "I’ll have to wait next Easter to see my wife smilig again!"

The history of the "PASTIERA"

The Pastiera, even if in a rudemental form, was used during the pagan celebrations of the return of the Spring time. During these celebrations Cerere’s priestess brought an egg, symbol of new life in procession. Because of the wheat or the einkorn, mixed to the soft ricotta cheese, it could come from the einkorn bread called "confarratio" a typical recipe during the ancient Roman weddings called "confarratio". Another hypothesis we may consider is that it comes from ritual bread used, which spread during the period of Costantino the Great. They were made of honey and milk the people offerd the catechumen during Easter Eve at the end of the ceremony of baptism.
The modern pastiera, was probably invented in a peaceful and secret Neapolitan convent. An unknown nun wanted that cake, symbol of the Resurection, to have the perfume of the flowers of the orange trees which grew in the convent’s gardens. She mixed a handful of wheat to the white ricotta cheese, then she added some eggs, symbol of the new life, some water which had the fragrance of the flowers of the spring time, cider and aromatic Asian spices.
We know for certain that the nuns of the ancient convent of San Gregorio Armeno were considered to be genius in the complex preparation of the Pastiera. They used to prepare a great quantity for the rich families during Easter time.
Every good Neapolitan housewife considers herself to be the one and only to have either the authentic or the best recipe of the Pastiera. There are two different ways of preparing the Pastiera: the oldest one mixes the ricotta cheese to the eggs; the most recent and innovative one, reccomends to mix thick pastry cream which makes the Pastiera softer. This innovation was introduced by Starace, a Neapolitan confectioner who had a shop in a corner in Municipio Square.
The Pastiera has to be cooked with some days advance, no day later than Maudy Thursday or Maudy Friday, in order to allow the fragrances to mix properly to have as a result that unique taste. The Pastiera is not only cooked but also sold and served in appropriate pans called "ruoti" because it’s very fragile, so it would easily crumble up if removed from the "ruoto".

I love music very much and play the electric guitar: it's a fantastic instrument. My other interests are: computers,internet , forums on the net. I don't live in Marigliano but I'm from Casalnuovo. I't's not very far but travelling to school everyday is an incredible stress.

Myths and legends of our region, Campania

There are several myths, legends and stories about the region Campania where they have left traces of inestimable value.
It is here where popular tradition has marked some of the most famous Greek myths: the Sirens, the Argonauts, Enea’s journey, Ulysses’ journey and the labours of Hercules.
It is here that the Virgins and the Saints, whose images and reliquies have overcome a sea of difficulties such as shipwrecks, pirates and other; protected the inhabitants of the region from all dangers coming from the sea or the volcano which dominates the gulf of Naples.
In Greek mythology, Naples was built where the Siren Parthenope was washed ashore after she had been rejected by Odysseus.Greek colonists, perhaps from Rhodes, may have founded a colony at this point as early as the 10th century B.C., but this too may be the stuff of legend.What is certain is that Greeks from Cumae built a new city near by, calling it "Neapolis" (new city), while the original town was renamed "Palaeopolis", or old city.
Neapolis was a leading commercial centre and the Greek language and customs survived even during the Roman period, where it was a favourite area of the elite.

Our region is not only full of ancient myths and legends from the Classical Age. Many legendary men have characterized our history over the centuries.
Think of the Revolt of Masaniello which is more of an interesting sidelight than a pivotal chapter in the history of Naples. This man from Naples and his brief rebellion against the Spanish rulers of the city in 1647 is now solidly entrenched in Neapolitan folklore. It has heroism, treachery, deceit, murder, success and defeat, all the elements of a good tale.

Think of the fascinating figure of Giordano Bruno from Nola, near Marigliano. He was a legendary, flamboyant, vain and loud hero .He still fascinates us today. (Indeed, even James Joyce used to puzzle his friends by references to "the Nolan," and on occasion paid homage to this fellow heretic and believer in the magical power of words by using the pen-name "Gordon Brown"!) He was a mystic, a devout man who brought with him from the past a belief in numerology, astrology and alchemy and even an interest in the revival of ancient Egyptian magic. He was, however, also a universal and tolerant man
He believed in an infinite universe, a literal interpretation of the biblical "worlds upon worlds," a universe in which nothing is fixed, not even the stars, and where everything is relative, including time and motion, a universe in which we are but a tiny part of the great unknown and in which God becomes more of a universal mind, a substance inherent in all things, not a personal, external Prime Mover. Unorthodox views like this were to put him on a collision course with the Inquisition.
In the early 1580s Bruno travelled to England where he lectured at Oxford and met the great men of English letters, perhaps, they say, even Shakespeare. Then, he left England and returned to France, Germany and back to Italy, where he thought he would be able to convince the Inquisition that he was no heretic and that his views were reasonable. He had, after all, time and again as a monk apologized for his doubts and, now, before the Inquisition, offered to defend his views. The Inquisition, of course, was not interested in debate; they wanted penitence, and Bruno would not give it to them. He spent eight years in prison, being "examined and questioned". On February 19, 1600, he was burned at the stake in the Piazza de' Fiori in Rome.

The Folklore of our Land

Folklore is the integral part of the cultural heritage of a community. It has been shown that in the popular traditions we can see the presence of fragments of the conceptions of the world and the life which occur in in the history of a country. They can be seen as the '' cultural assets '' which ''are an important witness of the history, the civilization and the culture ''.
The most suggestive aspect of folklore is a folk festival; and when it takes root in the tradition of the local community, it can be considered as a '' creative moment '' where people show their fervour, freshness and passions.They open a way in the everyday banality to penetrate the dimension of the meaning. This is what happens with the traditional Festival of the Lilies (“Festa dei Gigli”) in Nola, an ancient city not far from Marigliano and the Festival of "Lucerne" in Somma Vesuviano, a medieval town dominated by Mount Somma and Vesuvius, he famous Volcano of Napoli's Bay .
The Gigli's Day of Nola ( on Sunday following June 22) consists of a procession eight obelisks of 25 metres and a boat which are carried on men's back to the sound of music. It is an allegorical journey tale which explains its origins.This festival is famous in many countries abroad, particularly in Southern and Northern America, particularly in USA where it is known as the Dance of the Giglio.

What is The Dance of the Giglio?Imagine 125 men carrying a Five-Ton, Five-Story, Hand-Sculptured Tower and a 12- piece Brass Band on their shoulders dancing it through their neighborhood in tempo to joyous Italian folk songs
Why is a Giglio danced? For over 300 years in Italy, and the past century in communities throughout the greater New York area, this glorious ritual known as 'The Dance of the Giglio' has been celebrated each Summer with unbridled passion and devotion. This annual 65 to 85 foot-high moving monument to faith, folk-art and family honors a Roman Catholic Saint, San Paolino di Nola and his heroic act of sacrifice & valor in the ancient Italian city of Nola in the year 409 AD.
Where and When is the Giglio danced? In America, the Giglio is danced yearly at the following Italian-American Feast celebrations within the greater New York metropolitan area -- at the Feast of Our Lady of Mt Carmel and San Paolino in Williamsburg, Brooklyn; at Our Lady of Mt Carmel in East Harlem, Manhattan; and at the Festa del Giglio Feast at the Sunrise Mall in Massapequa, Long Island, New York. In Nola, Italy where the tradition began in 409 AD eight Monumental Gigli spires are danced annually on the Sunday following June 22, San Paolino day. This looming, moving and monumental dancing ritual to faith, folkart and family is also celebrated in the cities of Brusciano and Barra, in Vesuvius' area.

The festival of "Lucerne" is very ancient;its origins are pagan but, by passing the time, in the centuries of chritianization of the land, the pagan rites were interwoven with Christian elements. The popular tradition of the old peasantry culture is expressed in the simplicity of the rituals. The inhabitants of the medieval district of Casamale spend several days in preparing the feast which occurs only every four years, by arranging all the tools which reminds the pagan symbols,.They show wooden geometrical items, particularly triangles, with small shelves where to put oil lamps. People sing and dance all the night, wearing traditional costumes. When the feast ends, everything is removed and stored in cellars.

Obiettivi:
- Favorire relazioni di tipo interattivo per creare possibilità di aperture interculturali.
- Utilizzare la testimonianza diretta di individui appartenenti a diverse culture come strumento di apprendimento - scoperta in una prospettiva didattica attiva, operativa e problematica.
- Avviare alla conoscenza ed alla comprensione dei processi che hanno generato la propria e le altrui culture riconoscendone le funzionalità , la legittimità e il loro valore.
- Stimolare alla scoperta e consapevolezza di possedere e condividere valori comuni , al rispetto della propria storia e alla costruzione di quella comune.
- Stimolare lo scambio di esperienze e un confronto positivo con altri nell’ottica della cooperazione e del rispetto reciproco.
- Stimolare la conoscenza e le comprensioni della diversità culturale attraverso testimonianze su comportamenti, tradizioni, modi di comunicare e di trasmettere valori e conoscenze, attraverso l’arte e la saggezza popolare, attraverso miti e leggende.
- Essere consapevoli della differenza tra il concetto di "istruzione" e ""cultura" e considerare quest’ultima come prodotto, in continua trasformazione, di ogni gruppo etnico.
- Scoperta del territorio, delle sue risorse e tradizioni;

Motivazioni:

Il progetto è nato dal desiderio di offrire il proprio attivo contributo alla conoscenza delle nostre tradizioni culturali che affondano le loro radici nella storia del nostro paese e del nostro continente allo scopo di favorire il processo unitario dell’Europa promuovendo la dimensione multiculturale dell’istruzione; dal desiderio di conoscere e farci conoscere per educare i nostri studenti ad essere cittadini europei che ragionano liberamente senza pregiudizi, con spirito flessibile e critico, capace di una convivenza costruttiva.
Il progetto, a tal fine, sarà integrato nel normale orario scolastico e costituirà l’asse portante, il motivo conduttore delle attività curricolari con le quali sono ricercati collegamenti e riferimenti specifici.

Metodi e strumenti:

Tenendo conto dell'integrazione curricolare, facendo propria la metodologia della ricerca-azione nella dimensione laboratoriale, e privilegiando il momento della scoperta, la raccolta di testimonianze ed informazioni sarà finalizzata al recupero , alla riflessione ed al confronto tra diversi patrimoni. La scelta della multimedialità e la proposta del laboratorio teatrale consentiranno la messa in atto di modalità di rappresentazione della realtà attraverso una pluralità di linguaggi, alternativi e complementari a quello verbale, consentendo anche il raggiungimento dell'obiettivo relativo alla comunicabilità dei messaggi.L’impegno della scuola nella direzione dell’educazione interculturale, intesa come ricerca di affinità e valorizzazione delle differenze, sarà convogliato nella produzione di lavori multimediali sfruttando le moderne risorse della tecnologia e nella stesura di un lavoro teatrale che, a differenza dei mezzi multimediali, è senza dubbio la forma più antica di comunicazione di trasmissione di messaggi e di valori .

Hi everybody,
Let us introduce to you the group of people who made this project possible.
First of all our headmaster, Mr Vincenzo Acerra: a nice person who is always well disposed to provide us with the right opportunities to widen our horizons.
Then our Contact Teacher and member of the Headmaster’s staff, Mrs Speranza D'Alessandro, a really determined and friendly person, the one who actually has made this project real, thanks to her creativity and love for the intercultural dialogue.
And to follow Mrs Vincenza Mercadante, an English Language Teacher and the Language Multimedia Lab Responsible, a very pragmatic person actively collaborating in the plans of the Project.
Another important member is Mrs Teresa Picca, the Foreign Language Department Head teacher, who will contribute to the organization of lessons of Greek, German, Spanish and Norwegian, together with Mrs Mercadante and Mrs D’Alessandro.
Mrs Mariateresa Buglione, the Art and Drawing Department Head Teacher is the expert of Media Tools and she is the director of our e-journal where soon you can find all the news about our common project (see on www.liceocolombo.it). In the end, but not less important for our project, there’s Mr Luigi Perrone who teaches Italian but is Known in the school as a fine dramatist and responsible of Drama Group.

And now some news about our town Marigliano

Marigliano is an ancient town and counts 30,000 inhabitants most of whom were born right here. Just in the last few years, immigrants from Eastern Europe and Africa have started to settle down in the cities and its surroundings to find a job and a better quality of life.

The town, situated at 30 meters on the sea level, has an area of 22,3 square Kms; it is served by the local railway station Circumvesuviana and a bus line connecting Marigliano to Naples in about 30 minutes.A further bus service is also available for the citizens to go from one place to another of the city and to the surrounding areas: therefore Marigliano is not so small.
Neither it is far away from the the most interesting and famous tourist sites of the region Campania. Actually in less than one hour by car ( not more than 30 miles) you could reach Capri, Sorrento, Pompei, Amalfi, Positano, Caserta or Ischia….., all sites famous all over the world for their natural, art and historical beauties.

Marigliano is situated not far from Naples, about 14 miles from its city centre and 12 miles from the airport of Capodichino. Neither the capital, Rome, is so far, only 120 miles away and it takes just two hours and half by coach,two by car or only one and forty by the train Eurostar.

The school is situated in the centre of Marigliano and welcomes students coming from many towns in the surroundings.
It is a modern building, with wide, brightened and functional rooms. There are thirty-eight classrooms, six laboratories, an amphitheatre for meetings, a gym, several offices, a sports yard and a car park.
The school gives extraordinary opportunities to students who come from different social classes, with a prevailing amount of middle class. They receive a very good education which puts them in the condition to succeed in many fields.
Students at our school can choose between two different courses for their curriculum: in a scientific course or a socio-psycho-pedagogical one. The former provides a serious scientific education with subjects such as: Mathematics, Physics, Biology, Chemistry, Astronomy, together with Latin, Italian English, Art, Philosophy and History; the latter provides a formation in the field of Pedagogy and Sociology for future primary school teachers. In this course, besides Italian, Latin, English and Philosophy, they study Psychology, Legal studies, Drawing and Natural Sciences. Anyway the favorite subject of both courses is Physical Education: the only one that gives us a moment of relax as our curriculum is very hard. Our Lyceum , in fact, is Known as one of the best and most serious schools of the province and it provides all the chances to get ahead at University.
We hope to meet you soon and show our resources and our legendary sense of hospitality.
In the meanwhile we will go on with our work in the project that has made possible to get into contact with your culture.
